Seminar on Information on Pesticides Management 2012 • Meeting of Councils of Pesticide Science and Administration were held in Hangzhou during Nov. 12-13, 2012.
The events were hosted by the Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals of the Ministry of Agriculture (
ICAMA), and implemented by Zhejiang ICA.
The meetings reviewed achievements and experiences in pesticides management over the past year, discussed the significant roles played by information work related with pesticides management in guiding healthy development of pesticide industry and formation of fair public opinion, and standardizing administrative system. The meetings also identified the tasks for the next stage.
CPC Party Secretary of ICAMA Liu Yongquan and Deputy Director-General of Zhejiang Department of Agriculture Tang Zhongxiang attended and addressed the events. ICAMA Deputy Director-General Gu Baogen chaired the events. ICAMA Chief Agronomist Ji Ying attended the events.
Liu appraised the remarkable achievements made by information work in paying attention to changing situation of pesticide industry, highlighting pesticides research, making knowledge of pesticides available, and guiding public opinion.
Liu also called on integrated operation and management in pesticide-related information to provide support to healthy development of pesticide industry while China is about to release and implement the revised Regulations on Pesticide Management. This can be achieved by making full use of clout of modern information technology in industrial management, up-to-date understanding of pesticide research, and keeping close tab on media opinion as well as emergency handling.
Liu put forward the following suggestions for information work in the next stage:
1. To enhance advocacy for the revised Regulations and corresponding regulations, and their implementation.
2. To provide
technical support to traceability system of pesticides.
3. To enhance emergency management and monitoring on media opinion.
4. To push forward the integrated operation and management of information work on pesticides regulation.
5. To develop a network on information experts engaging in pesticides management.
Regarding to the purposes and orientation of the revised Regulations which attracted wide attention, competent officials or experts from ICAMA had an in-depth discussion with representatives from pharmaceuticals.
Gu pointed out in his speech that
food safety and
environmental protection have posed new challenges to pesticides management, consequently safety has become the core of pesticides registration management. To fit in the new situation, the requirements for data on safety of pesticide products shall be supplemented in the revised
Regulations. In addition, during evaluation stage required by registration, safety and risk assessment shall be tightened up.
ICAMA Chief Agronomist Ji Ying briefed the pesticides registration in 2012. So far, 2302 items of pesticides have been approved for registration. Temporary registration decreased markedly while environment-friendly formulation under temporary registration increased significantly, taking 70% of the total temporary registration.
Participants responsible for pesticide-related information from different provincial ICAs exchanged experiences, discussed tasks and priorities for the next year. At the meetings, groups and individuals who have achieved outstanding successes over the past year were awarded. Vice-Chairman units, Standing Council units and Director units of the journal of Pesticide Science and Administration received certificates.
More than 600 participants attended the meetings, including representatives from 29 province-level ICAs and over 100 Director units of the Journal.
